Fortress Piling

FORTIFY YOUR DOCK WITH FORTRESS PILINGS

Fortress Pilings, founded in 2008, combines design ingenuity with construction fortitude. A sister company of Centek Marine, the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of marine exhaust systems, Fortress Piling was born after watching miles and miles of fiberglass tubing roll by. Thanks to the expertise of a leading Georgia Tech composite engineer, the team was able to create a strong, durable composite pile that rivals others on the market and provides some unique benefits.

THE BENEFITS OF COMPOSITE PILING

Why choose composite pilings over treated wood pilings, steel, or concrete pilings? Check out the following benefits of using Fortress Pilings for you dock:

  • ROT RESISTANT. Marine organisms cause serious damage to timber piling. Fortress Pilings are not susceptible to damage caused by marine organisms.
  • ATTRACTIVE. Why sacrifice style for strength? With Fortress Pilings, you get both! Fortress Pilings are available in three standard colors: light gray, tan, and deep brown. Custom colors are also available for those clients looking for a high-end finished product.
  • STRONG. The unique manufacturing process makes Fortress Pilings stronger than traditionally treated wood pilings.
  • LIGHT WEIGHT. Weighing in at only 7.2 lbs/ft, the 9” diameter pile is over 70% lighter than a timber piling! Fortress Pilings are easy to move around the job site without the need for heavy equipment.
  • ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY. Many dock owners and governing authorities alike are looking for ways to use new materials that will satisfy the need for strong waterfront construction structures but also selecting materials that have no chemical contact with waterways. FRP piles are right in the middle of satisfying that need.

Fortress Pilings are offered in a variety of diameters and wall thicknesses which allows you to pick the best size for your project. Standard (0.25”), Medium (0.31”), and Super (0.375”) wall thicknesses are available in 8”, 9”, 10”, and 12” diameters. In addition, Fortress Pilings can also be custom sized to meet the exact specifications required for your project.

WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING YOUR PILING

Pilings provide the foundation for your dock and provide the structure on which everything will rest. When choosing your piling, make sure to consider the following:

Suitability for your project: What will your foundation support? Are you planning a large dock with an attached boat lift? A sightseeing dock for peaceful evenings on the lake? Will your dock need to support a lot of foot traffic? Whichever piling you choose will need to be strong enough to support whatever activities are planned for the dock.

Your goals: Do you want to ensure your dock is environmentally-friendly? Are you concerned with the color of your pilings or want a specific look? If so, composite pilings are ideal for your dock.

By aligning your project’s needs and your personal preferences, you are better equipped to choose the right piling for your dock. And if you need assistance, Decks & Docks is standing by.

HOW FORTRESS PILINGS ARE MADE

Fortress Pilings are made using a barrier liner which is then wrapped at precise angles with continuous fiberglass strands which are coated with vinyl ester resin and finished with a premium marine-grade coating. Because Fortress Pilings are hollow they may be filled with concrete or other materials for added strength if needed. Each component helps make the piles durable, strong, and attractive.
